If there’s two aspects to celebrating the Halloween season that are of vital importance, it’s that however you choose to celebrate, it should be fun, and no one should get hurt. As I was with today’s Halloween Horrors contributor when he first watched the topic of today’s post, I can assure you that it was not fun and that people were indeed hurt, at least on a psychological level. Seriously… I’m still having nightmares.

Today’s contributor is my son, Bishop Fallon. Bishop contributed his first true review to the series last year with a few thoughts on 2023’s Missing. This year, he makes the best of a bad situation; a bad situation called “The Mouse Trap“. Granted, he chose this film his damned self, so I don’t feel too bad about his having to suffer through the film. I’m just kind of pissed that I willingly chose to subject myself to this doomed experiment as well.

As mentioned in this review, my family will be vacationing at Disney World during Halloween. I do wonder if resort security would frown upon my dressing as the killer from this film while I hand out candy to trick-or-treaters on Halloween night. Then again, if any of these kids saw this movie, they’d probably feel so embarrassed for me that they would give me candy.

Happy Halloween, everybody! This is my second time writing one of these for… whatever the series is called. Usually, I would be thrilled to write about a movie I enjoyed, but… this year was not one of those occasions. Without further ado, put on your Dixie Cups, whistle your favorite melodies, and let’s review this excuse of a movie.

On January 1st, 2024, Disney’s 1928 cartoon “Steamboat Willie” entered the public domain, meaning that anyone could use it without the risk of copyright infringement. Oh, the suspense!  Who would take the first crack at making a project with the beloved character who had been so well protected up until this point? What would it be like? How long would it take? Well…

Literally not even a day later, The Mouse Trap gets announced and was expected to release in March 2024, but after several delays, was released on August 6th, 2024. Along with this was “Infestation: Origins”, which is a video game based around, you guessed it, Steamboat Willie. If this year’s movie stipulations did not exist, then I would not pick this movie because, though it may shock you…

This was one of the, if not the worst movie I have unfortunately ever laid my eyes upon. No offense to the people who made it and all, but it was so confusing, and just straight up embarrassing. I know it is a Canadian movie, but why do 68% of the characters (including Mickey) wear hockey jerseys? Why?!

One common theme throughout the movie is that it flips between the current day and the incident of the murders, which, even though they say it was filmed in some random place called the Funhouse, I can heavily assure you was filmed it at a local Dave & Busters. All the environments, except the jungle gym, looks the exact same.

Also, I know this may be uncalled for and rude, but Mickey looks stupid as hell. He looks like that one image of the big teddy bear with the laughably small head. Also, I swear you can see the murderer’s eyes through the mask. I promise I am not crazy, just trust me on this one, all right? Anyways… aside from making fun of Mickey, or the poor try of making the mask look like him, the movie is good…if you are trying to laugh at a $3 movie on Prime Video.

If you are trying to watch the movie for the violence and kills, then skip the first 40 minutes of the movie. I’m not kidding. They do not show a lick of violence in those first 40 minutes, even if two people do die. Speaking of which, I find it funny that the first two dead were “having fun” in the jungle gym. They did not have much protection from Mickey, or…reproduction.

I did not mention a lot of what happens in the movie, because you can watch it for yourself. Just a heads up, watching this movie may give you a migraine and/or regret. Yes, it is that bad. Do not worry; if I get a chance again next year, I hope there is a better movie I get the chance to review. The only reason I picked this movie was because it was allowed due to the number 4 being at the end of the year, so…I blame the owner of this series for making those rules, not me choosing the movie. (Sorry, Dad.)

I felt that choosing this movie was appropriate, because in October, my family will be heading to Disney World. It’s a bit confusing, if you think about it. Imagine being excited to go to a resort that’s filled with Mickey, so you watch a movie about the exact same character brutally killing people in a Funhouse while he maniacally laughs about it for 90% of the movie, then going to a place with a chance to meet that same character. I’m pretty sure Mickey (in reality) wouldn’t kill you. Just don’t get on his bad side, because who knows what he does when no one’s looking. Look what they did to Oswald! The common and well-known answer is that he was sold, but I think Mickey had something to do with it.
